BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW 7 Series.

NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL INCL. TOUCH DISPLAY.

The Navigation system Professional features a sleek design and a superior range of services: it delivers a simple and easy-to-use navigation system that is seamlessly integrated into the BMW, incl. the iDrive operating concept with iDrive Touch Controller and Touch Display. The system comprises Voice control, radio BMW Professional with DVD drive, as well as 20 GB of memory for audio files. It also facilitates the use of Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI). The built-in 10.25" LCD colour display with split screen function (main and supplementary windows) is designed for optimal readability and overview.
The operation allows for seamless switching between input options with the iDrive Touch Controller, whose touch-sensitive surface allows destinations to be entered into the navigation system easily using handwriting, via the display with touch screen function, via Gesture Control or Voice control, as well as by means of seven bookmarks.
The system automatically updates its maps up to four times a year for three years in selected European countries as part of BMW ConnectedDrive in the domestic market.

  • Automatic map update

    The latest generation of the navigation system Professional automatically updates its navigation maps up to four times yearly in conjunction with BMW ConnectedDrive. As soon as a new map for a previously selected region becomes available, the update is transmitted wirelessly via mobile phone networks to the vehicle's built-in SIM card.
    There are no licensing or download fees for the automatic map updates, nor is registration necessary. Manual updates using a data storage device or through a BMW Service partner are no longer required. The navigation system remains fully functional while the update is being completed.

DRIVING ASSISTANT PLUS INCL. STEERING AND LANE CONTROL ASSISTANT.

The Driving Assistant Plus equipment offers the comfort of partially autonomous driving thanks to Active cruise control with Stop&Go function and Steering and lane control assistant. In addition to the Driving Assistant functions, active safety is improved by Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping assistant with active side collision protection, approach control warning and person warning with braking function and Crossing traffic warning.
Active cruise control maintains the desired speed (up to 210 km/h) as well as the distance to the car ahead. The convenient Steering and lane control assistant is available in the same speed range. It takes over steering and automatically keeps the BMW in the middle of the lane. In slowly moving traffic and traffic jams, the vehicle maintains the selected distance to the car ahead with automatic braking and accelerating.

  • Steering and lane control assistant incl. Traffic jam assistant

    The Steering and lane control assistant incl. Traffic jam assistant can be activated to support the driver in monotonous traffic situations. At speeds of up to 210 km/h on all road surfaces, the system conveniently supports steering and keeps the vehicle in the centre of its lane.
    Cutting-edge steering support is possible with or without Active cruise control. It uses multiple area-surveillance radar systems and a stereo camera. The system positions itself using the edge-of-lane markers and the vehicle in front, if applicable. It automatically maintains the desired distance from the vehicle ahead and regulates the car's speed down to a standstill, as well as providing active steering support. The Steering and lane control assistant represents another milestone on the path to achieving highly automated driving.
    Although the system is capable of driving the vehicle independently, the driver is legally required to continue driving with both hands on the wheel. If the driver does not comply with this requirement, the system sensors in the steering wheel rim will recognise this fact and warn the driver acoustically after a certain period of time. Then it will enter stand-by mode. This is also the case if the indicator is activated for changing lanes or if the system requirements are no longer met, e.g. the lane is too narrow.

  • Lane Keeping assistant with active side collision protection

    The Lane Keeping assistant with active side collision protection, which actively intervenes in steering to avoid leaving the lane unintentionally, or colliding with objects to the side of the vehicle. If Approach control warning is activated and a vehicle to the front brakes, the BMW reacts immediately with warnings of increasing intensity, light braking and finally full braking.

BMW Head-Up Display

BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.

The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display projects all information relevant to the journey directly into the driver's field of vision, thereby allowing them to fully concentrate on driving. Data such as speed is displayed, along with navigation tips, Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator, telephone and entertainment lists, and information and warnings from the various driver assistance systems.
The icons projected onto the windscreen are displayed in a particularly high resolution and in full colour. The image's projection appears as if it were 2.3 m in front of the vehicle. This, in combination with optimal positioning, allows the information to be read quickly, conveniently and with minimal distraction.
The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to suit the external light conditions, with different displays for day and night, and the height of the display can also be adjusted. Furthermore, the driver can also select which information to display in addition to the current speed and warnings from the driver assistance systems.

Remote Control Parking

PARKING.

Three functions that work together perfectly – thanks to the Parking assistant, Remote Control Parking and Active Park Distance Control manoeuvring into a parking space with the BMW 7 Series is effortless. Even narrow garages are not a problem. Simply exit and park your BMW 7 Series by remote control and at the touch of a button using your BMW display key.
 

  • Remote Control Parking

    The Remote Control Parking function allows the driver to conveniently hop out of the vehicle before parking it via remote control by moving it forward into, or reversing out of, a tight parking space or garage. The driver activates the remote-controlled parking function from outside the vehicle via the BMW display key.
    The entire parking procedure is monitored by Park Distance Control (PDC), the Parking assistant and the Surround View sensors. In order to use the remote-controlled parking function, the vehicle has to be straight and centered, facing the parking space or garage. During the parking procedure the driver can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop if necessary.
    Once parked, the engine can be switched off via the key. And when it's time to move on, the engine can also be restarted via the key. During remote-controlled pulling out of a parking space, the vehicle automatically reverses in a straight line.
    The Remote Control Parking function is available from March 2016 for the models 730d, 740d, 730i, 740i, 750i, 730Ld, 740Ld, 730Li, 740Li and 750Li.

  • Parking assistant

    The Parking assistant including linear guidance parks the vehicle completely automatically in parking spaces that are parallel or perpendicular to the street. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces while driving past them at a low speed (below 35 km/h) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars.
    Once a sufficiently sized space has been found, the driver only has to turn on the indicator and the Parking assistant takes over the steering, as well as selecting the correct gear, accelerating and braking. The driver is only responsible for monitoring the parking process. The system also gives instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals. The Parking assistant emits an audible signal when the parking process is over, and shifts gear into P.
    When parking without Parking assistant, the Lateral parking aid uses additional sensors to monitor the areas to the sides of the car and represent obstacles on the Control Display. Active Park Distance Control (PDC) brakes automatically if a collision with an obstacle is imminent when backing into a space. So the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.

    The braking function Active PDC supports the driver in reverse parking situations to avoid collisions and reduce the severity of an accident. So the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.
     

SURROUND VIEW INCL. 3D VIEW, TOP VIEW AND PANORAMA VIEW.

Surround View includes the camera-based functions Rear view camera, Panorama View, Top View and 3D View. Cameras at the front and back of the exterior mirrors provide a 360° view around the vehicle.

In addition to the simple depiction of the driving space to the rear, Top View offers the driver a look over the door and the lane area to the car sides for more convenient manoeuvring. In 3D View, a computer generated 3D view is shown simultaneously, for an even better overview when parking.

Panorama View makes navigating in areas with low visibility, such as driveways or confusing intersections, safer. A digital camera on the front of the car captures the traffic situation in front of the vehicle. This enables early detection of oncoming traffic so that the driver can react appropriately. The Panorama View function is automatically deactivated when the car reaches 15 km/h.

The driver can switch between the three functions Top View, Panorama View and 3D View. The last selected function will be automatically reactivated when the system is next used. The camera systems are activated when the car is put into reverse or the PDC button or Panorama View button is pressed. The images captured by the cameras are shown on the Control Display.

BMW NIGHT VISION WITH PERSON RECOGNITION.

BMW Night Vision with person recognition provides the driver with a range of vision that well exceeds the beam of light from the headlights, making it possible to identify people and large animals from a significant distance at night. They are also selectively illuminated by the Dynamic Marker Light function in the dazzle-free main headlight. An infrared camera mounted on the BMW kidney grille transmits images from the front of the vehicle onto the Control Display. This allows the driver to identify people and animals at a distance of up to about 300 metres.
While taking account of the vehicle speed and steering angle, the system also calculates whether the identified objects pose an actual risk. In the event of acute danger, a flashing red icon (animal or person) is displayed in the video image and in the BMW Head-Up Display. An acoustic alarm is also issued and the brakes are primed for optimum readiness.
This warning system is automatically activated when the vehicle is started. In the event of danger, the system therefore even emits a warning when the imaging display has not been activated. BMW Night Vision with person recognition is an innovation from BMW ConnectedDrive.
